SAFETY
We do love our rosary beads, but we cherish our children even more. Please exercise your best common sense with your beads whenever children are near:
- Never let a baby put a rosary – or any kind of bead – in their mouth.
- Do not leave a rosary within reach of unsupervised (and curious) little hands.
- Do not allow children to swing rosary beads.
- Never let a child wear a rosary around their neck.
- Never allow loose beads out in the open: all too quickly they can disappear down an airway, and it can be too late.
- When not being used, be sure to always keep your rosary in its case, safely out of reach.
This is not to frighten anyone away from using rosaries in the presence of children, but simply to serve as a reminder of how precious our children are, and that we just need to be smart about airway safety. And if you haven’t had a brush-up in the Heimlich Maneuver lately (especially how to perform it on children), now is the perfect time. Please contact your local Red Cross for more information on First Aid and Child Safety.
