Cost vs. Value

"Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with all the Masses said throughout the world today; for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those within my own home, and within my family. Amen."

This is a very sweet, diminutive rosary.  The beads are between 5½-6mm in diameter and are breathtaking.  I first found them about two years ago, and had to have them because they looked just like little bits of hay caught inside clear quartz beads; they reminded me instantly of the Nativity of Our Lord.  This rosary has been a long time coming, waiting for just the right…everything…to come together.

The beads themselves are Golden Rutilated Quartz.  What reminded me of hay is actually a geological occurrence known as  “rutiles”, small needle-like inclusions in the mineral.  It’s fairly easy to find black rutilated quartz, or even red, but golden rutiles of this quality are a special find.  Although small, the density of the rutiles make these beads much more costly than their more common black or red cousins, or even their golden siblings that may be sparser with a nary a rutile encased in the beads.  The rutiles themselves are quite chatoyant, and shimmer just like more familiar tiger’s eye.  It’s a lovely bead and really does look like hay, from that long ago Manger that still exists today in each and every heart.
